Dr. Jemima Petch
Dr. Jemima Petch is Head of Practice at Relationships Australia Queensland, a not-for-profit organization offering counselling and post-separation services including family dispute resolution. Over the past 20 years she has conducted research across several topics, including supervision, allyship, and DFV, and reported on intervention effectiveness across education and therapy, for individuals, couples and parents attending education, counselling, mediation and gambling help. She has a particular interest in using research to inform practice improvements.
This presentation will cover the latest in our understanding of conflict in separated families, including exploring
1) the differences between types of post-separation conflict, and what conflict looks like when it moves to an unhealthy and potentially harmful level;
2) trajectories of conflict;
3) how to screen and assess for post-separation conflict;
4) what predicts and perpetuates conflict;
5) the impacts of different types and trajectories of conflict on children, parents and families and how conflict interacts with other individual, parenting and contextual variables to influence outcomes; and
6) promising interventions for post-separation conflict.
